My Mom was the only person who told me that your first year of marriage was supposed to be the best. Everyone else gave us warning that the first year is the worst! Well since look out for a blog post next year on which one is true, for now I want to give you an honest look at how my first year of marriage had been!
1. Engagements are stressful on relationships. We spent 8 months planning our wedding and then poof! it went by so fast and the weeks following you think.. What on earth do we do now?
2. Living together is hard. Hang on, LEARNING to live together is hard.
3. Laundry. My life is a never ending cycle of laundry, Imagine what it will be like when we have little ones!
4. We had to learn how to have time to ourselves, When you're dating it still allows for me time. When you're married you want to spend time with your spouse but then after a few weeks of watching TV you realise you need an evening of reading to yourself!
5. Everyone is raised differently, and it is really hard to figure out how to co-exist when you have your own ideas on how things should be done. I'm very grateful that we have had this time before kids so we can discuss as much as we can and what is most important to us.
6. (This is a good one) My honey is a bottomless pit. He loves to eat which is fantastic as I love to cook! he gives me the opportunity to explore that more and he never complains when I experiment on him!
7. I wish we did more dating, Everyone says that just because your married doesn't mean you should stop dating but that is hard! When you are living together and your married things are just more important than going to movies and dinner! This next year though I want to come up with some cheap date ideas to keep that fun going.
8. We have been SO BLESSED. I am so grateful to have a husband who works so incredibly hard for me and has such strong faith in the Lord. We are so lucky to have a home and a car and jobs. So blessed.
9. It is wonderful to have the security of my marriage, I know I can say what I feel and he will still be there in the end. I will say however I wish we had been sealed right off the bat. Don't get me wrong I am so glad to have had my Parents and my family attend our ceremony. But having the testimony that I have regarding eternal marriage This year has just ticked by and every time we travel I pray for our safety! I am so excited to be with my companion for the rest of eternity.
10. Imagine living with your best friend. Sometimes we get sick of each other and we annoy the snot out of one another (sometimes on purpose), it is just plain fun.
This year has gone by so quickly, And I am certain we have already lasted longer than some people thought we would (Marriage at 20 is ridiculous kinda people). But I would not trade my life with my husband for all the treasure in the world. I look forward to spending the rest of eternity together.
Happy Anniversary
